Here's what I should send, but can't, and won't, to the candidate we're trying to hire, who's way hotter than we are, who shouldn't even be thinking of a school like us (especially with all those cute second-tier universities batting their eyes) but somehow might be:

• Barry Schwartz's The Paradox of Choice, with a bookmark inserted at Chapter 4, on maximizers and satisficers.
• Timothy Burke's discussion of institutional incentives for faculty, which includes some comments particular to the culture at his fine liberal arts school.
• The Chronicle endowment listings (subscription required to actually see data).
