Annajane is still at the hospital in Metropolis, the one with the geriatric psychiatric unit. She's continuing to stabilize, they say, but they don't want to release her quite yet.
Her current psychiatrist, Dr. Ahistoric, finally called last week. He asked, "Has she ever been on mood stabilizers before?" Somehow, even though she's been in treatment continuously for 6 years now, and with a single outpatient program and single hospital (until now) for two straight years, none of her records seem to have gotten to her new hospital.
Dr. Ahistoric was unwilling to speculate on what might have caused the apparent dementia crisis last month.
It's a little frightening that someone who didn't know her history has been doing what seems to be clearly a better job of treating her than people who did know her history could manage.
The social worker from her unit left me voice mail two days later. She started off with a brief accunt of my mother's admission that assumed I didn't even know it had happened, and apologized that she hadn't called earlier; she had trouble, she said, getting my number fom the nursing home.
But the nursing home called me the night she was transferred! I called the new hospital immediately and gave a good chunk of her history to the doctor on call! And I'd been leaving messages for her attending ever since!
