If St. Hilda's got a partner school named, hell, I don't know, Saint Jerome, it might not be a bad education at all.

The cultural issues are a huge problem, though, and the complete lack of actually talking to you baffles me.

Oh well, there's always the option of a transfer if it doesn't work out. One thing St. Hilda's will be good at is keeping her in school, hopefully -- they've got a pretty good rep for getting people to degree.

(Honestly, though: rural Minnakota? That's a bit of a cultural escapade for me, and I grew up in urban Minnakota!)

I'm not sure that going to the HBU is necessarily any better for her than St. Hilda's. I saw this paper presented a few weeks ago: http://www.economics.harvard.edu/faculty/fryer/papers/fryer-greenstone%20HBCUs.pdf , and it was a bit worrisome: in short, a couple of decades ago, the students attending the HBUs did better (in graduating and in later wages) than similar students who attended other schools. This is no longer true. Worrisome.

Does St. Hilda's have any particular interest in international students? Some small schools I wouldn't have expected have impressed me with their attention to educating international students (the Chronicle had a profile a few years ago about a student from the middle of Kenya who was going to college at a small school in rural Maryland...they even brought her mother over for graduation!)

Yeah, I think St. Hilda's is actually a pretty good place. (a) I know at least one quality colleague there. (b) The other week at knitting group, a person I perceive as smart declared, out of the blue, "One of the best decisions I ever made was to go to St. Hilda's. I loved it there and got a great education."

If "St. Hilda's" is really an all women's school in a northern city named after a Saint -- then she picked very well... I'd have loved to go there and have friends who teach there and love their students!

Living in the frozen north isn't all that bad, we have things like heat, electricity, cable TV and the internet.
